|
Maratea, a major tourist
resort on the spoles of Mount San Biagio, is situated on the Gulf of
Policastro. Not far away are the charming seaside resort Acquafredda,
Cersuta, Fiumicello-Santa Venere, Porto, Marina and Castrocucco. The
town, wich has ancient religious origins, is well-known thanks to its 44
churches, where outstanding works of art are kept. It used to be a small
fortified Longobardic village, and subsequently became an active trading
port connecting Maratea and its hinterland to the rest of the world.
Today, the harbour continues to represent a chelter for old fishing
boats as well as for modern craft, wich bert at the quay in great
numbers. |
